Engineering Career Related Resources
- Agilent Technologies -- Career Center A cluster of links to articles that discuss: business dinner etiquette, interview technique, resumes and more sits in the lower right hand corner of the white part of the page. The articles offer mainly basic job search advice.
- Engineering International Careers Guide A site with a guide to the job hunt, sample resumes of various types, and tips on interviewing and tracking down leads. There are also postings for entry level jobs.
- Graduating Engineer and Computer Careers A magazine-style site with articles on interesting job opportunities for engineers and computer scientists as well as new developments and how they might effect employment. There are special sections for female and minority engineers too.

- Patent and Trademark Office Home Page "For over 200 years, the basic role of the Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) has remained the same: to promote the progress of science and the useful arts by securing for limited times to inventors the exclusive right to their respective discoveries." And yes, this site offers free database searching of most US patents. Click on "Patents" followed by "Search US Patent Database" for access. If you are serious about securing a patent or trademark you will need a professional search as well as legal assistance.
- ThomasNet A directory of who makes just about anything, searchable by product/service, company name, brand name and location.

Engineering Professional Societies
- American National Standards Institute Provides access to manufacturing and processing standards created to and agreed upon by businesses in the US. Standards mean that computer components and other parts from different companies can work well together. Standards information is highly technical, and some areas of this site are for members only.
- IEEE IEEE is the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. At least part of one of their journals, The Spectrum, is available at this site, as well as articles about a wide variety of technical topics, engineering careers and education, and engineering developments in the news.
- Society of Women Engineers The strength of this site is its job hunting and career planning materials. There is information about engineering careers for students at all levels, including those undecided about becoming engineers.

Engineering Sites for the Interested Public
- A Sightseer's Guide to Engineering Virtually visit engineering achievements in all fifty states of the US. Sites range well known marvels such as the Empire State Building to more quirky offerings such as the only remaining metal kazoo factory. By the National Society of Professional Engineers.
- Engines of Our Ingenuity Produced by KUHF-FM Houston, Engines of Our Ingenuity "is a radio program that tells the story of how our culture is formed by human creativity." Website provides transcripts and a daily podcast is available via NPR.
- Greatest Engineering Achievements of the Twentieth Century By the National Academy of Engineering, this site tells the story of engineering advances that make for the comfortable life we know today. Advances include: the airplane, automobile, television, and of course the Internet.
- How Fiber Optics Work A detailed, readable, and illustrated series of articles explains fiber optics.
- Structurae: International Database and Gallery of Structures Click on "structures" or "large scale projects" to see capsule summaries and sometimes photos of bridges, buildings, towers, and more. Learn about the engineers who designed these structures, the date they were completed, and other interesting facts.

Sites to Interest Students in Engineering
- DiscoverEngineering.org A site that encourages students to consider engineering as a career with articles, games, do-at-home activities and science projects. Links to a variety of sites including PBS Kids, National Engineers Week, and TryScience.
- EngineerGirl Home A K-12 site by the National Academy of Engineering that mixes education with public relations to encourage female students to consider engineering as a career. The site includes articles on various engineering specialties, an "Ask the Engineer" section, and a section on great engineering achievements.
- Georgia Tech's College of Engineering "Engineering students make up almost sixty percent of the student body at Georgia Tech. With a total of over 8,400 students Tech has one of the largest Colleges of Engineering in the United States. Consisting of 10 separate units, Tech offers engineering degrees in 13 undergraduate programs. In addition, students can choose to pursue a Master's or Ph.D. in one of over 20 areas of concentration." This site offers information about faculty, admissions, and courses of study.
- What is Engineering? By the Whiting School of Engineering at Johns Hopkins University, this website provides "an introduction to basic engineering concepts, allows you to conduct experiments in a virtual laboratory, and describes hands-on projects."
