Earthquakes

  • Center for Earthquake Research and Information This well organized site lives up to its name. In the big table on the front page are links to articles on earthquake perparedness/survival, a basic earthquake FAQ, an earthquake database, K-12 resources and much more.
  • Earthquake Information from USGS This site features: frequently asked earthquake questions, earthquake maps, news on the latest earthquakes, information on earthquake research, and of course earthquake links.

Paleontology

  • The Great Archosaur Lineage Archosaurs are a major group of animals known as diaspids. If that doesn't mean much, consider that they comprise the dinosaurs, pterosaurs, as well as present day crocodiles and the forerunners of contemporary birds. The site concentrates mostly on systematics and fossils.
  • The World of Amber Everything you wanted to know about amber from how to find it, to its uses, chemistry, fossil inclusions etc... is on this fast loading, award winning, and well organized site.

Volcanos

  • Alaska Volcano Observatory Search images, specific volcanos, or link to other volcanic regions within the United Sates. This site also contains a glossary of volcanic terms.
  • Cascades Volcano Observatory The most famous volcanos in the Cascade Mountains of Washington and Oregon are Mount Saint Helens and Mount Ranier which towers above Seattle. This site features Mt. Saint Helens news, along with maps of other Cascade volcanos, information on living with volcanos, information for visiting inactive volcanos, and much more.

Weather

  • Earth Observing System -- Data and Information Links to a variety of data sets and maps generated by orbiting satellites that are part of the Earth Observing System. This is dry scholarly information, and both subject background and a well focused topic make this site easier to use.
  • FEMA: Tornado A basic account of how to prepare for and survive a tornado. Covers tornado drills, tornado safety kits, and tornado shelters
  • Global Change Master Directory This site features maps and tables on just about any aspect of Earth or atmospheric science-related change that you can imagine, and even some that you can't. The language is dry and technical, and the amount of information so overwhelming that one either needs a lot of time to browse, or one should know exactly what one wants.
  • National Hurricane Center Tropical Predication Center The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is the arm of the United States government that tracks storms. This site offers the latest and most authoritative news, forecasts, and advisories on approaching hurricanes and tropical storms.
  • National Weather Service This site features everything from local weather forecasts for just about any place in the United States, to hurricane advisories, to articles on droughts to satellite maps, to animations. Some reports are technical, and local forecasts are several links into the site.
