Chemistry resources

This webliography lists links to a wide array of chemistry pages. There are: K-12 education pages, pages that deal with chemical safety and chemical warfare, and the history of chemistry, as well as general, organic, physical, and nuclear chemistry, plus the tables vital to this subject. Whether you are a beginner, an education student, or a science major, there is probably something here for you. All pages have icons indicating level, and pages that require plug-ins include that information in their descriptions.

  1. Chemical Safety
  2. Chemical Warfare
  3. General Chemistry
  4. K-12 Chemical Education
  5. Nuclear Chemistry
  6. Organic, Bio, and Polymer Chemistry
  7. Other Chemical Tables, Physical Constants, and Chemical Calculators
  8. Periodic Tables
  9. Physical Chemistry

Chemical Safety

Chemical Warfare

  • Jim Placke's Chemical Warfare Links A continually updated chemical warfare meta-site with links divided roughly into categories. The "NBC" in the title stands for nuclear, biological, and chemical. Due to deep linking, some of the links, especially those to news organizations, vanish rather quickly.

General Chemistry

  • American Elements "American Elements brings academia and industry to the forefront of advanced materials technology with primary research and laboratory facilities in the United States and manufacturing and warehousing in Europe, China, Australia and Brazil."
  • Chem Finder -- Chemistry Search Engine A group of three related web search engine especially designed for chemistry. Find articles and web pages about your favorite substance. Searches by formula, name, or CAS registry number. Produces a well focused search and takes variant spellings in stride.
  • Links for Chemists A meta site featuring links to academic departments, online chemistry dictionaries, periodic tables, applets, and much more. The most useful information is probably under "Chemical Information."
  • WWW Chemistry Guide "WWW Chemistry Guide - a comprehensive collection of annotated links for chemists and researchers involved in organic, biochemical, computational, medicinal and/or other chemistry research."

K-12 Chemical Education

  • Chem4Kids Explains the basics of chemistry without a lot of technical vocabulary or mathematics. Good for beginning students of all ages. This site also has a partial periodic table complete with an explanation of the arrangement of the elements, and a glossary of chemical terms.

Nuclear Chemistry

  • The ABC's of Nuclear Science A brief and thorough introduction to the concepts of nuclear chemistry including: beta rays, cosmic chemistry, radiation, and even antimatter.

Organic, Bio, and Polymer Chemistry

  • Organic Reactions An alphabetical listing of organic reactions. Click to see each reaction, complete with structrures and references to seminal journal articles about it. This is a source for students who have already had basic college chemistry

Other Chemical Tables, Physical Constants, and Chemical Calculators

  • Chemistry Functions An assortment of chemistry calculators and also perform molar conversions. The site includes an interactive periodic table.
  • NIST Physical Reference Data Links to tables of physical constants, SI units, spectra, nuclear chemistry, and other information, all available at this fast loading scholarly resource.

Periodic Tables

  • Chemicool Periodic Table A color coded periodic table that places a summary on each element just a mouse click away. Summaries include physical data and links to Encyclopedia Britanica articles.
  • Martindale's "Virtual" Chemistry Center Links, links, and more links to periodical tables, chemistry calculators, and spectroscopic data.
  • The Periodic Table of the Elements at Los Alamos National Laboratory ). A colorful and clickable periodic table designed for the user who has had high school chemistry. Different element groups within the table are different colors, though the site offers no explanation as to what these groupings mean. Click on an element to receive a summary of its history, isotopes, uses, health risks, and even price.

Physical Chemistry

  • Theory of Atoms in Molecules
Long scholarly articles explain molecular structure. Three dimmensional illustrations do not require plug-ins.
  • UCI Chemistry -- Educational Applets
Applets with explanations that describe gas laws, entropy, quantum mechanics (chemical orbitals), and other physical chemical phenomena. The images are surprisngly intuitive and the text is accessible to any one with a solid high school chemistry background and motivation. This site almost makes physical chemistry enjoyable.
