Associations and organizations

  • American Anthropological Association Includes information about the American Anthropological Association, membership and donations, sections and interest groups, publications, professional development, resources, issues and news.
  • Archaeological Institute of America The Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) is North America's oldest and largest organization devoted to the world of archaeology with nearly 250,000 members and subscribers belonging to more than 100 local AIA societies in the United States, Canada, and overseas, united by a shared passion for archaeology and its role in furthering human knowledge.
  • National Anthropological Archives The National Anthropological Archives and Human Studies Film Archives collect and preserve historical and contemporary anthropological materials that document the world's cultures and the history of anthropology. Their collections represent the four fields of anthropology--ethnology, linguistics, archaeology, and physical anthropology--and include fieldnotes, journals, manuscripts, correspondence, photographs, maps, sound recordings, film and video created by Smithsonian anthropologists and other preeminent scholars.
  • Society for American Archaeology The Society for American Archaeology is an international organization dedicated to the research, interpretation, and protection of the archaeological heritage of the Americas. With more than 7,000 members, the society represents professional, student, and avocational archaeologists working in a variety of settings including government agencies, colleges and universities, museums, and the private sector.
  • Society for Cultural Anthropology The Society for Cultural Anthropology is a section of the American Anthropological Association. It promotes scholarship and scholarly communication about cultural studies and culture theory broadly conceived. It also aims to connect cultural anthropology with scholars in such other disciplines as history, literature, philosophy, and science studies.
  • Society for Georgia Archaeology The Society for Georgia Archaeology (SGA) is composed of avocational and professional archaeologists. SGA's purpose is to bring together all persons interested in Georgia archaeology. To achieve this goal, SGA actively works as an organization to identify, study, interpret, and preserve Georgia's rich historic and prehistoric archaeology heritage.
  • Society for Historical Archaeology The Society for Historical Archaeology is the largest scholarly group concerned with the archaeology of the modern world (A.D. 1400-present). The main focus of the society is the era since the beginning of European exploration.
  • The Prehistoric Society Originally founded as the Prehistoric Society of East Anglia in 1908, the current name was established in 1935. The Prehistoric Society now has an international membership of around 2000 members from over 40 countries.

  • Anthropology Resources on the Internet: Journals and Electronic Journals Developed from the "Anthopology Resources on the Internet" directory that was started by Allen Lutins in 1995. It was felt for some time the African archaeology resources would benefit from a specific web site bringing together the information gathered over several years.
  • Cultural Anthopology Cultural Anthropology, the journal of the Society for Cultural Anthropology, publishes ethnographic wrting informed by a wide array of theoretical perspectives, innovative in form and content, and focused on both traditional and emerging topics.

  • Archaeology Fieldwork.com A collection of discussion boards focusing on careers in archaeology, including employment and volunteer opportunities, news items, internships, and fieldwork logistics.
  • National Museum of Natural History; Anthropology The National Museum of Natural Hitory is part of the Smithsonian Institution, the world's preeminent museum and research complex. The Museum is dedicated to inspiriting curiosity, discovery, and learning about the natural world through its research, collections, exhibitions, and education outreach programs.
  • The World Wide Web Library of African Archaelogy Developed from the "Anthropology Resources on the Internet" directory that was started by Allen Lutins in 1995.
