Anthropology/Archaeology Internet Resources

Introduction

This webliography is intended to be used as a starting point for identifying useful Internet resources in the fields of Anthropology and Archaeology. (A webliography is a list of web sites, like a bibliography is a list of books.)

The Internet contains a wealth of information on every imaginable subject, but there are significant resources that are not available on the Internet and can only be found in the library. Also, the quality and usefulness of Internet resources varies widely. If you choose to use an Internet resource, be sure to evaluate it carefully according to the following criteria:

  • Accuracy - Is the information reliable and error free? Are sources cited?
  • Authority - Who is the author and what are his/her/their qualifications?
  • Objectivity - Is the author's intent to persuade or make a sale? Is the information presented free of bias?
  • Currency - Is the information up-to-date? Is the last updated date clear? Are there various versions?
  • Coverage - What is included? Are the topics explored in depth?

Much of the information you find through traditional search engines such as Google and Yahoo may not be suitable for scholarly research.
