Types of Maps in the Library
Types of Map Information
- geological
- historical
- political
- demographic
- spatial
Types of Map Formats
- books
- broadsheet map (flat sheet in a drawer)
- digital (web site, CD, or DVD)
Maps in the Library Reference Area
- Two atlas stands (titles listed in GIL with LC classification)
- Shelves in the G section of Reference or F if historical US
- Two map cases of flat maps in drawers in alphabetical order. These are in big flat drawers in cabinets in the hallway between Reference and Government Documents. These drawers contain:
- US state and city maps
- Topographical maps
- Row of folded maps from different parts of the world in alphabetical order and notebooks of reproducible maps, including Maps on File (from Facts on File). All located on the table across from the maps in the drawers.
