I began my work experience with Columbus College, now Columbus State University, in June 1983. I came out of Muscogee County School District with seven years library experience. My first position at the CSU library was in the Cataloging Department. I did copy cataloging and processing of new materials received by the library. I was promoted to Library Asst. II in the Government Documents Department in 1984. This was a very interesting job and one I did for five years. In 1989, I was promoted to Library Asst. III in the Periodicals Department. I worked with ordering, receiving on-line and processing of the library's many periodical titles. In 1996, I took over the position of Sr. Secretary for the Director and the library. This has been my greatest challenge. The secretary's job is always changing to meet the demands of the Director, library faculty and staff, students, teaching faculty and administration. The greatest reward of this job is meeting and helping people in all areas of university and community life.
I am married to a sweet man, Mike Thomas. I have three grown children, 2 girls and 1 boy. They in turn have blessed me with seven grandchildren: Carolynn, Christopher, Chase Aaron, Taylor (Pud), Rebekah, and Erin. The newest grand is Coleman Brooks. He's my newborn. The greatest reward in living is grandchildren. I can think of nothing better than little arms thrown around my neck and a sweet kiss from them!
I have a wide variety of hobbies. Sewing and cross-stitch is something I enjoy. Reading is another great pleasure of mine. I enjoy all types of music. However, Big Band is my all time favorite. I tap dance and play the piano, but would love to ballroom dance. I am an active Harley rider (on the back). Mike has a Heritage Soft-tail and we go to Daytona and participate in the local chapter of HAWG's. You meet a variety of great people riding a Harley. We have really had some wonderful times.
I have a teacup poodle name Sucee and a cocker spaniel named Velvet. My husband has a Schnauzer named Nikki. (These are the only children we have together.) We attend Whiterock Assembly of God Church in Phenix City. Mike sometimes plays with the gospel group, The Masters Quartet and we enjoy going to gospel sings.
